Modeplot is a set of free calculators for construction and home-improvement materials: flooring, paint, drywall, concrete, masonry, landscaping, roofing, decking and lumber.
What the calculators do
Each calculator turns your measurements into a material quantity – area, volume, pieces or packages – and, if you enter your supplier’s price, an estimated cost. Every calculator shows a diagram of what you entered, the formula it uses, a worked example and the assumptions behind the result.
The calculators run entirely in your browser. The numbers you type are not sent to our servers.
How the calculators are checked
- Every formula has automated tests with hand-checked examples, run on every change to the site.
- Unit conversions use the exact definitions published by NIST.
- Material figures that vary by product – coverage, bag yield, bundle count, density – are entered by you from the label or data sheet. Where we show a default, the methodology page lists its source.
- Results are estimates for planning purchases. They are not engineering calculations and do not check building-code compliance.
See the methodology page for the source register.
